History

Origin

The company was founded by James Scott with Dr. Garcia Luna Aceves as Chief Science Officer; he created Cisco Systems EIGRP[8]default networking protocol based upon his invention, the Diffusing Update Algorithm (DUAL); as well as Dr. Len Kleinrock[9]; the Founding Head of the Scientific Advisory Board, known for his significant work on queueing theory, a key to packet switching, one of the basic technologies of the Internet[10]

ADARA has collaborated with Hewlett Packard, Intel, Verizon and Broadcom[2][5][11][12] in development of its SDN and Cloud Computing products based upon ADARA proprietary technology coupled with open standards; this modular platform approach has been the basis of numerous articles[1][3][4][6][7][10].

  • Dynamic Link State Protocol (DLSP): network (Layer 1-3) performance aware protocol used in ADARA Switches, VNFs, Cloud Software, SDN Controllers and Mobility platforms to; rather than a best efforts approach DLSP measures and enables performance defined guaranteed SLAs (Service Level Agreements), QoS[15] and SLA based SD-WAN  
  • QuickStart Plus (QS+): TCP (Layer 4) integrated with ADARA DLSP
  • Web/WAN Instance Location and Distance (WILD): virtual and physical Host (Layer 7) and network performance aware protocol used in ADARA Cloud Software, VNFs and Cloud Controllers; WILD measures and delivers performance enabling guaranteed SLAs (Service Level Agreements) for Compute and Storage Hosts.  
  • Generic Object Location and Distance (GOLD): virtual and physical Application and Service (Layer 7) and network performance aware protocol used in ADARA Cloud Software, VNFs and Cloud Controllers; GOLD measures and delivers performance enabling guaranteed SLAs (Service Level Agreements) for Compute and Storage Applications and Services.
  • Cloud Switch Operating System (CSOS): An operating system for open network Ethernet switches based on Open Network Linux (ONL)[16].
  • ADARA SDN Stack software: A user space SDN networking stack (Kernel Loadable Module) for ADARA vSwitch based virtual switches that enhanced functionality over Open vSwitch using DLSP enabled performance defined guaranteed SLAs (Service Level Agreements), QoS and SLA based SD-WAN[11][14]

ADARA markets and sells a platform of modular products including

  • CloudFabric: Cloud Management and Monitoring Platform which embeds OpenStack and AWS APIs, base metal physical server provisioning, virtual machines, containers, Choreography and Orchestration. CloudFabric contains Cloud Data Center Interconnect, a Hybrid Cloud creation product.
  • Sky Controller: SDN Controller[12]
  • CloudStack: suite of VNFs for SD-WAN, WAN Optimization, Acceleration, Virtualization, Security
  • CloudMobile; Mobile Device Management and SD-WAN and WAN Optimization for Mobile platforms.
  • ADARA SDN Stack software and Cloud Switch Operating System (CSOS) implemented using ONIE (Open Network Install Environment), runs on ADARA Axis Switches; DPDK based implemented on open Ethernet switches from multiple manufacturers including Edgecore, and SDN Packet Optical Networking using multiple manufacturer’s optical switches.

ADARA also contributes on multiple open source projects:

  • Open Networking Lab (ON.Lab) and Open Networking Foundation (ONF); a non-profit organization founded by SDN inventors and leaders from Stanford University and UC Berkeley to foster an open source community to develop tools and platforms to realize the full potential of SDN.
  • Open Compute Project (OCP): a collaborative community focused on redesigning hardware technology to efficiently support the growing demands on compute infrastructure.
