Anis Al-Rafii (Arabic:أنيس الرافعي), a Moroccan storyteller, born in Casablanca in 1976. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, specializing in linguistics and modern literary criticism. He is one of the most important short story authors in Morocco and the Arab world. He remained faithful to writing the short story and did not turn to write novel as many of the storytellers did.[1] Models of his work have been translated into French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian and Chinese, and he was selected as one of seven distinguished writers to participate in the second edition of the World Prize for Arabic.[2]

Biography

Anis Al-Rafii's experience, a Moroccan storyteller from the 1990s, is a new one based on the aesthetics of experimentation, which the writer considers not to be a high-profile one but a constant yearning and motivation. His creative project included parallel art from cinema, composition, photography and music, which are closely related to his cognitive and emotional interests, which the writer has invested to create a new experience in the Arabic story.[3] The Belgian-based Moroccan film director Ghabari Al-Hawari directed a short film inspired by the story collection The Puppet Clinic. He received the Gothenburg Award and the Akiodi Award. The stories of Anis Al-Rafii have been translated into many languages, and his works have received great attention and hospitality from critics and specialists at the Moroccan and Arabs. There are those who consider that Anis Al-Rafii, with his creative achievement, a true creative phenomenon in the field of short story.[4]

Dar Safsafa for Culture and Publishing chose to celebrate the anecdotal experience of Anis Al-Rafii, by issuing eight books in two parts, according to a special tabulation that included exercises, sequences, observations, sounds, rituals, guides, photographs and investigations. With each part appendixed with the testimonies of Moroccan and Arab writers, they accompanied the author's experience by writing about it.[5]

The Egyptian critic, Dr. Mohamed Al-Shahat, wrote in the back of the fourth cover of The Tailor of Bodies:"The narrative of the book (Tailor of Bodies) by Moroccan storyteller Anis Al-Rafii works on the principle of practicing creative writing as a "fabric" or "sewing" for a group of human bodies and situations, daily or cosmic, subjective, otherwise or even a meditative hypothetical. On the one hand, this (contrasting) book, in its form and in the investigation of its cultural references, Arab and Western, and knitted with the performance and patience of Two, whose quadruple geometric structure is formed in the form of a dress that may be of language fluidity and threads of its metaphors and compositions, is inspired by the energy of ancient and intermediate Arabic prose, putty with a modern narrative flavor".[6]
