Ariadaha Kalachand High School, is a boy's senior school located in Ariadaha, West Bengal, India.[1] It is a Bengali Medium school and it is managed by the Department of Education.[1] The school consists of Grades from 5 to 12 and it doesn't have an attached pre-primary section.[1]
History
Ariadaha Kalachand High school was set up on 6th January, 1884 against the back drop of Bengal Renaissance.[2] During the glorious period of Renaissance in Bengal, the quiet village of Ariadaha on the bank of the holy river Ganga emerged as a centre of education and culture.[2] Some enthusiastic people of the village with a noble mission to enlighten the villagers in modern education being inspired by the ideals of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and Reverened Krishnamohan Bandyopadhyay and guided by the spirit of the ‘Young Bengal' set up a school called ‘North Suburban Academy' in the drawing room of the house of Mr. Sashi Bhusan Ganguli adjacent to the present building of Ariadaha Kalachand High School.[2]
Like many other dreams fulfilled, the school stands as an epitome of the aspirations of the people of Ariadaha-Dakshineswar in the northern suburb of Kolkata.[2] The School was renamed Aridaha Kalachand High English School after the name of Mr. Kalachand Das whose illustrious son Mr. Sibapada Das generously contributed for the setting up of the school building on its own land.[2] Later, the school became known as Ariadaha Kalachand High School.[2] Having gone through many ups and downs Ariadaha Kalachand High school is now a premier educational institution under Belghoria P.S. of Barrackpore Sub-Division with a glorious heritage of education and culture.[2]
The school was upgraded into a Higher Secondary School in 1959 with 3 streams viz Science, Commerce and Humanities.[2] The school rose to eminence for the outstanding performance of students under the guidance of qualified teachers, specially Mr. Dulal Chandra Ghosal, the then Headmaster, whose untiring effort to improve the standard of the school was crowned with success.[2] After the traditional building of the school had out lived its purpose, it had to give way to a new building.[2] What was once a solemn gothic structure lined with palm trees has now been replaced by a modern four-storied school building with an open air stage and a modern auditorium.[2]
