From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The ARTA (Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards) [1] festival is a cook-off and award programme covering Asian takeaway food and curries from restaurants throughout the UK.

The program works to recognise the work carried out by professionals[2] operating in the takeaway industry and to support the sector's cultural and financial contributions to the local economy [3].

ARTA Structure[edit]

The ARTA programme was founded in 2017 and officially launched on 17th of October [4].

The competition takes place over a nine-week period with candidates selected through an open public vote. All chosen restaurants are then invited to attend a series of regional cook-off events at sixteen locations throughout the UK [5].

The competition concludes with a gala event on the 30th of September where final winners are announced and awarded [6].

2018 Programme[edit]

The current programme is made up of the following elements:

Initial voting

Voting opened on Wednesday 10th January 2018 [7]. During the period, the public nominated [8] their favourite local restaurant through online voting|

Cook Off Events

Voting was collated into a top-thirty shortlist of restaurants and takeaways on a per-region basis. Each region then held an ‘ARTA Cook Off’ event [9]. These events see successful businesses compete compete to determine the overall winner for each sector [10]

Award Ceremony

The top-ten representatives from each regional ‘Cook Off’ event are invited to the Grand Finale event on the 30th of September. The final winning restaurant is awarded the ‘Champion of Champions’ trophy, and runners up given a range of awards [11].
