Daniel Lazard (born December 10, 1941) is a French mathematician and computer scientist. He is emeritus professor at the University of Paris VI.[1]

Career

Daniel Lazard was born in Carpentras, in southern France.[citation needed] After his undergraduate education at the University of Paris VI,[citation needed] he obtained a PhD in 1968 under the supervision of the commutative algebraist Pierre Samuel, with the dissertation "Autour de la platitude" ("Around flatness").[2]

After 1970, his main area of research changed to computer algebra, particularly multivariate polynomials, computational algebraic geometry and systems of polynomial equations.[citation needed] To mark his retirement at the end of 2004, there was a conference at the University of Paris VI devoted to his subject area.[3]
