The European Hyperloop Week (EHW) is an international Hyperloop conference and design competition organised annually by a consortium of four European hyperloop student teams associated with the University of Edinburgh, Delft University of Technology, ETH Zurich, and Polytechnic University of Valencia. The event brings together academic researchers, students, and industry leaders to exchange knowledge on cutting-edge Hyperloop technology, infrastructure, and the expected socio-economic impact. Over the course of the week, hyperloop teams present their research papers and compete with their hyperloop pod and track prototypes.[1]

Based on the SpaceX Hyperloop competition held from 2015 to 2019 in Hawthorne, California, the European Hyperloop Week has been held annually since 2021. It is the biggest not-for-profit Hyperloop conference and design competition in the world. The organization was founded by four hyperloop student teams: HYPED, Delft Hyperloop, Swissloop, and Hyperloop UPV amid the challenges and uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the indefinite cancellation of Elon Musk's Hyperloop Pod Competition. Their goal is to create an ecosystem that brings together hyperloop enthusiasts, academia, and industry leaders to accelerate hyperloop development by maintaining an open-source and competitive environment and to familiarize the general public with the hyperloop concept. This goal is supported by their slogan: "Fostering Innovation Through Collaboration".[2]

The European Hyperloop Week differentiates itself from its predecessor by promoting hyperloop research and knowledge exchange, particularly focusing on technological advancements, full-scale hyperloop infrastructure, and socio-economic research. Whereas the Hyperloop Pod Competition was predominantly aimed at generating publicity and rewarding the fastest prototype regardless of technologies used.[3]

The first edition was organized by Hyperloop UPV in July 2021, and was held in Valencia, Spain.[4][5]
