Maria Alice has been the face of musical success in the southern region of Portugal of Alentejo and Algarve. Among these, "Eu abro a minha janela" is her most commercially successful single, with over 550,000 copies being sold, placing her at the #1 selling artist for several weeks.[1] This song has been covered by other artists.[2]
Maria Alice was also made famous by writing two letters to António Salazar and Marcelo Caetano requesting insulin to be made available to the region of Alentejo. Her request was granted.[1]
