Totalplay (Totalplay Telecomunicaciones, S.A. de C.V.) is a Mexican telecommunications company based in Mexico City, offering services such as subscription television, Internet, Fixed telephony for home, through Fiber optics.
As of November 2014, it was fully acquired by Grupo Salinas. It offers a wide variety of Triple and Double Play services over a fiber optic network managed directly to the home (FTTH). It started trial operations in September 2010 and was commercially launched in May 2011. It provides services in the main cities of Mexico.
History
In 2004, the mobile telephony company Iusacell began to build its nationwide fiber optic network, making a strong investment in infrastructure and technology to interconnect the companies that make up Grupo Salinas.[1]
As part of the strategy and investment plan for the deployment of a fiber optic network managed by Grupo Iusacell, the idea of providing additional services to broadband (Internet) and voice over IP (VoIP) was conceived. This is how it was possible to provide pay TV services under the IPTV architecture, making an interactive scheme available.
Totalplay officially began test operations in September 2010 and the first services deployed were Linear TV (Live TV) and Video on Demand (VOD). During this test period, a group of beta users was formed, however, it was not until 2011 that the Mexican market and the media became known with the following services: Direct fiber to the home (FTTH), Broadband connection of high speed, Interactive TV, and an offer of HD content.
In 2011 Totalplay was the first company in Latin America to broadcast a reality show in 3D.[2]
Also, in 2016, they were the first in Latin America to carry out a live broadcast with 4K resolution and offer television services with that quality. In 2017, it received the title of "best ISP" from the Netflix platform.[3]

Television
Totalplay's television service is offered in IPTV format, it was also the first to provide an interactive service, with which applications that require Internet access from a television are offered, such as YouTube, Netflix , Prime Video, Starz Play and Blim among other services.
Telephony
Totalplay's vocal cord service is based on voice over IP telephony, which is carried out with VoIP technology, and also includes a subscription to the softphone application with which calls can be made and received whenever and when connected to a Wi-Fi network or using mobile data.
Internet
It is offered using fiber optics to the home, with GPON technology, in which, from strategically located nodes (poles), the fiber is derived directly to the client. The speeds offered are asymmetrical (10% increase) for residential and may be symmetrical only in its business format and in its micro-business offer through an additional monthly payment service.
Mode of operation
Totalplay uses fiber optics as a means of transport for sending and receiving digital voice and data, using Fiber To The Home (FTTH) technology, where the fiber is connected from the node on the post and reaches the customer's home.
This is achieved using PON (Passive Optical Network) technology, which in practical terms is a point-multipoint network, which allows the fiber to be divided into several levels. Taking into account that the links are optical, Totalplay uses optical wireless technology to reach places where fiber optics cannot be installed or built through a laser link.
