Keshav Chand Yadav is an Indian politician from Indian National Congress. He is the current President of the Indian Youth Congress.[1][2] from 11 May 2018.[3]
He is also a special invitee to Congress Working Committee (CWC) which is the highest decision making body of Indian National Congress Party.[4]
Early life
Keshav Chand Yadav was born in a farmer family in Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh. No one from his family was involved in politics. He obtained his bachelor of arts (BA) from Lucknow University and Masters of Arts (MA) in Sociology from Kanpur University.
Social activities
He was President of Nehru Yuva Kendra for Malhani village area from the year 1995-2000. During these years he worked on various campaigns on Anti-Drug drives, awareness against social evils and other such issues. In the year 2000 he contested the Panchayat elections from his area and was elected as a Panch. After the Gujarat riots he worked in the relief efforts to the people of Gujarat. He has also worked as Co-ordinator North India for “Asha for Education” Organisation. In 2004 he took out a cycle yatra from IIT Kanpur to Gaya Bihar against the killing of engineer Satyendra Dubey who was killed after he exposed corruption in NHAI where he worked as an engineer. He completed the 1600-km Yatra within 29 days. In 2005 he participated in Shanti Padyatra from Hazrat Nizamuddin, India to Multan, Pakistan. From 2005 to 2010 he was UP State Conveyor of National Alliance of People's Movement. During this he worked for Education of poor kids, save water campaign and other issues of social importance.[5][6]
Political career
In 2011 Keshav Chand Yadav was elected as the State General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh after contesting the internal organisation elections of youth congress, a process conceptualized by Rahul Gandhi to bring internal democracy in youth congress. In 2013 he was appointed as the National Secretary at Indian Youth Congress. He was In-charge of Orissa & Madhya Pradesh states during his tenure as National Secretary of IYC. In 2016 he was appointed as National General Secretary of Indian Youth Congress. He remained In-charge of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh during his tenure as National General Secretary. He was appointed as IYC President by AICC President Rahul Gandhi in May, 2018.[5] He started a nationwide Yatra with the name Yuva Kranti Yatra against the Modi led BJP Govt.[7] The yatra will highlight the agrarian crisis, problems of youth and other issues concerning the people of India. The yatra started from Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari in the southernmost part of India, Covered Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Northeastern Indian states, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra & covered all the 29 states of India. The yatra concluded on 30 January 2019 at New Delhi.[8][9][10][11][12] Congress President Rahul Gandhi even sent his best wishes to Youth Congress for completion of Yuva Kranti Yatra by tweeting from his twitter handle.[13][14]
The Yatra ended with a mega youth rally named "Inquilab" organised by Keshav Chand Yadav at Talkatora Stadium, which was attended by all senior leaders of Congress & Congress President Rahul Gandhi who appreciated the efforts of Keshav Chand Yadav for starting Yuva Kranti Yatra to raise the voice of Youth from all over India. Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Modi on Rafale Scam during his speech in the Inquilab Rally.[15][16][17][18][15][19][20][excessive citations]
