Kethwal

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Kethwals (Urdu: کیٹہوال‎) are a tribe found mainly in Murree Hills and the neighboring Hazara Division in Pakistan. They are trapped between Dhund in the west and Sattis in the east. They own only three villages which include one, Charihan in Murree Tehsil.

Like many other tribes in the region, there are a number of theories about the origin of the Kethwal tribe. According to one of their traditions, they are believed to come from Kerman in Iran.[citation needed] She had travelled eastwards and settled in the Murree hills and had established her dominion over the Murree region. According to another tradition they are of Rajput origin, and took Islam in 1402, in the hands of the great Sufi, Syed Ali Hamdan. Mian Qadir Bakhsh, the son of Raja Chandu Murree Hill, was the first Muslim of the Kethwal tribe who allegedly accepted Islam in Patan Kohala in 1402.[citation needed] The word Kethwal derives from the name of the one tribe chief Mian Katho Khan, who was born in 1560 and is considered to have ruled the Muree region for about fifty years.[citation needed] Whatever the exact origin of this tribe, the Kethwal are the oldest of the Murree tribes.[citation needed] The most important Muhi (clans) of Kethwal are Badwal, Jogeal and Janjual.[citation needed]
