Kevin Csolak (Born October 18, 1995) is an American actor, dancer and singer. He has appeared on Broadway in the original casts of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Mean Girls, and West Side Story as well as Cirque du Soliel's original World Premiere cast of Wintuk. He appeared in the role of Diesel in Steven Spielberg's 2021 film version of West Side Story. He played Young Andrew in Season 6 of TNT's Animal Kingdom.

He has appeared on television in CBS's As The World Turns,[1] and HBO's Boardwalk Empire.[2] He has also appeared on Jessica Jones, The MICK, K.C. Undercover, Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street, Mysteries of Laura, and Blue Bloods. He was featured in Amy Schumer’s viral video, Girl, You Don’t Need Make Up for Inside Amy Schumer.

Early Life[edit]

Csolak was born and raised in Hunterdon County, NJ, the youngest of three boys born to Leesa Bonnell-Csolak and Keith Stephen Csolak. He grew up training in his mother's performing arts school. His father was a percussionist and Band Director. He attended Demares Grammar School, Reading/Fleming Intermediate School, JP Case Middle School, and Hunterdon Central Regional High School all in Flemington, NJ. He studied Musical Theatre at PACE University for one year from September 2014 thru May 2015. He then moved to Los Angeles, California in August 2015. He relocated to New York City in 2018 where he presently resides.

Career[edit]

Musical Theatre[edit]

Csolak performed in several community theatre and performing arts school productions during his youth. He made his broadway debut at the age of eleven in the original cast of How the Grinch Stole Christmas[3] which opened November 8, 2006 at The Lyric Theatre (then The Hilton Theatre) as Bugsy-Who and understudied the role of Danny-Who. The following year, November 7, 2007 through January 6, 2008, he originated the lead role of Jamie in Cirque du Soliel's World Premiere cast of Wintuk,[4] at the former WaMu Theatre at Madison Square Garden (now The Hulu Theatre). In the Spring of 2009, he played Dusty in the Developmental LAB of the musical, Burnt Part Boys[5] at the Vineyard Theatre.

In the summer of 2015, Csolak was part of the developmental LAB of The Prom.[6] He performed in the pre-Broadway out-of-town tryout in Atlanta at the Alliance Theatre that Fall. In Spring of 2017, Csolak performed in the LAB Production of Mean Girls, The Musical. Opening on October 31, 2017, he performed in Mean Girls[7] World Premiere in Washington, DC at the National Theatre. Csolak was in the original Broadway cast of Mean Girls[8] on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre which opened on April 8, 2018. He performed in the ensemble understudying the lead of Aaron Samuels. He made his principle debut[9] in the role of Aaron Samuels on June 20, 2018. He left Mean Girls on April 7, 2019.

Csolak began preview performances in the principle role of A-Rab in Ivo Van Hove's West Side Story[10] on December 10, 2019 and officially opened the show at The Broadway Theatre on February 20, 2020. He also participated in the developmental LAB of West Side Story. The show was closed since the March 12, 2020 Broadway shutdown due to the COVID19 pandemic.

Stage (Live)[edit]

Csolak danced with Justin Timberlake in the 2018 Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show[11] on February 4, 2018 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was one of four dancers who performed with Hayley Kiyoko in the 2018 Video Music Awards.[12] at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, NY.

Film & Television[edit]

Csolak’s film experience began in 2010 as the lead character, Eric, in a short directed by Poz Lang called We Could be Ninjas.[13] We Made This Movie[14] a comedy by Rob Burnett followed. He went on to play a run-away opposite designer, Marc Jacobs in the SAG feature, Disconnect[15] under the direction of Henry Alex Rubin starring Jason Bateman and Alexander Skarsgard. In 2017 he starred in two shorts by director, Anthony Meindl,How We Work[16] in the role of Troy and How We Work 10[17] in the role of Stojan.

He appeared in the 2021 film adaptation of Steven Spielberg's West Side Story[18] in the role of Diesel.

Kevin Csolak began his television work at the age of ten in the recurring role of Daniel Hughes in the American soap opera, As The World Turns[19] for CBS. He co-starred in Blue Bloods[20] on CBS as Luke Ryder in Season 3, Episode 3, Old Wounds. He recurred as a co-star in HBO's Boardwalk Empire[21] as William Thompson in three episodes in 2012; Spaghetti and Coffee, Sunday Best, and Two Imposters.

In 2015 he guest starred as Spencer Schofield in Season 1, Episode 13, The Mystery of the Deemed Dealer[22] on The Mysteries of Laura. That same year he played a boy band member for Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central. The music video, Girl You Don't Need Make Up for Season 3, Episode 2, Cool With It immediately went viral and the song parody won an Emmy that year.

In 2016 he guest starred on KC Undercover for The Disney Channel as Adam in Down in the Dumps[23] Season 2, Episode 8 starring Zendaya. That same year he guest starred as Ellis on Gortimer Gibbon's Life On Normal Street, Season 2, Episode 17. Csolak guest starred in the role of Stewart in 2017 on The MICK[24] in Season 1, Episode 8, The Snitch starring Kaitlin Olson. He guest starred as Keith in Marvel's Jessica Jones[25] Season 2, Episode 7, AKA I Want Your Cray Cray in 2018.

Awards & Recognition[edit]

Time Out New York named Csolak to the 2018 list of The Hottest Chorus Boys on Broadway[26] in 2018.

The Ensemblist named Kevin Csolak to The Ones To Watch List 2018.

The 2018 Chita Rivera Award[27] for Outstanding Broadway Ensemble was shared by the cast of Mean Girls and the cast of Carousel.
