Kevin Howard (born January 15, 1990), better known by his stage name Cali Kev, is an American rapper and journalist. His mother is African American and his father is of African American & Panamanian descent. He is best known for his mixtape No Salary Cap which helped jump start his career.

Early life

Cali Kev was born in Inglewood, California, California. He grew up listening to Sade, and Mac Dre, among others. At age 9 he watched the music video for Bounce With Me by Bow Wow and knew at that moment he wanted to pursue a career in music.[1]

In 2012, Kevin started a solo career, releasing a series of singles, some of which ended up on his first solo project, a mixtape titled The 1 Man Show. In October 2013, Debbie released his first EP, titled Breakfast at Chavito's. Kevin began taking his rap career seriously in the beginning of 2016. Although he hadn't been releasing any music, he'd released his debut project KevnGOTGroupies[2]

2016–2017: KevnGOTGroupies, and No Salary Cap

In the winter of 2015 Kevin started his own music blog called AuxGod that specializes in showcasing all the underground music for all over the world. While finishing KevnGOTgroupies and starting his new project "No Salary Cap" he became heavily involved with the journalism side of the music industry. After becoming known for helping put underground artist on the radar, In July 2018 Kevin became Elevator Magazine’s writer and contributor.

On June 3, 2018, Kevin released his second EP, titled No Salary Cap, which gained huge success and had NBC interview him about the album.[3]

2018–2019: 1-900-CALI-KEV

Kevin is also recording music for his upcoming album "1-900-CALI-KEV" to be released at the beginning of 2019. [4]
