Kevin Jeffery Lincoln II (born October 28, 1980)[1] is an American pastor, businessman, and former Marine who is the mayor-elect of Stockton, California. A member of the Republican Party, Lincoln was elected mayor in 2020, defeating incumbent Democratic mayor Michael Tubbs.
Early life[edit]
Lincoln was born on October 28, 1980 in Stockton, California. His grandfather, who immigrated from Mexico to California, settled in South Stockton. In 2001, he joined the United States Marine Corps, later being recruited by the White House Military Office and was assigned to Marine One, serving President George W. Bush.[2]
Education[edit]
Lincoln attended the University of Phoenix and received an associate's degree in business in 2008. He later attended Grand Canyon University and received a bachelor's degree in business management in 2015. In 2019, he received a Master's degree in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.[3][4]
Political career[edit]
Lincoln's first run for political office was in 2016, when he ran for an assembly seat for California's 13th State Assembly district. Although he was the runner up for the blanket primary, receiving 19.27% of the vote, he was defeated in the general election by incumbent Susan Eggman, who received 64.80% of the vote.[5]
He later ran for Mayor of Stockton in 2020, winning 21.59% of the vote during the March 3, 2020 primary election. However, as no candidate had reached 50% of the vote, the election went to a runoff in November, pitting Lincoln against incumbent mayor Michael Tubbs.[6] Although a winner was not declared on the night of November 3, 2020, Lincoln held a led against Tubbs as ballots were being counted daily.[7] On November 17, 2020, Tubbs conceded the election, making Lincoln the mayor-elect of Stockton.[8]
