Kevin Malbrook
Kevin Malbrook (6 July 1967-Victoria, 1 March 2017), nicknamed "Kev" by his colleagues, was a Seychellois journalist working for the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation since 1995. While working there, he was known for his stance regarding freedom of expression and his investigative journalism work.[1]
Biography
Malbrook was born on 6 July 1967.[2] On 1 June 1979 (International Day of the Child; 1979 being International Year of the Child as designated by UNESCO), he read a speech for the opening of the Children's Playground.[3] In 2009, he served as a donor for the Children's Ark building at Bel Eau.[3]
He spent some of his youth and young adult years in Greece, where he became fluent in the language,[4] but returned to the Seychelles in 1995, starting his work at the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation on 1 May.[2] At SBC, he became a television journalist, as a presenter and investigative reporter; as the latter, he mainly covered crime cases. He received a television award from the Seychelles Toourism Marketing Authority (STMA)[4] in 2003.[2]
As of early 2017, Malbrook fell ill and had been away from television; he died on the morning of 1 March 2017 at the Seychelles Hospital at age 49. His remains were put at the Takamaka Cemetery on 3 March.[2]
