Khaled Salmeen (Arabic: خالد سالمين) (born 1973) is an Emirati entrepreneur who helped in a number of major infrastructure projects in the United Arab Emirates. He played a role in the development of Abu Dhabi's industrial and manufacturing economy[1] - one of the goals set out by the Abu Dhabi Government's Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 to diversify the local economy away from oil and gas.[2] For the past 10 years, he held a number of executive responsibilities and leadership roles (CEO - COO - EVP), in leading publicly-listed as well as government owned organizations.

  • Marketing, Supply, and Trading (MS&T) Executive Director at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). He is responsible for achieving the best commercial value from ADNOC's crude oil, gas and petroleum products, the expansion of the company's client base, and for implementing ADNOC's move into trading. As a Member of the ADNOC Executive Management Team,[3] Khaled Salmeen sits on the Board of Directors of ADNOC Logistics and Services, ADNOC Refining, ADNOC Distribution, ADNOC Global Trading, (AGT), ADNOC Trading, (AT) ICE Futures Abu Dhabi (IFAD) and VTTI.
  • Co-founder of KSK Logistics, also known as Boxit4me from 2018 to present.

Previous Positions[edit]

  • CEO and Managing Director of Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) from 2009 till 2014. He developed KIZAD's strategic plan, brand and detailed business plan.
  • Board member of Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) from in 2013 and 2014, and a leading adviser to Abu Dhabi Ports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi[4] where he was responsible for the business development and commercial operations of the Port's main business lines.
  • Chief Operation Officer at Abu Dhabi's leading district cooling company, Tabreed, from 2007 to 2009[5] where he oversaw an elaborate capital expansion project program exceeding AED 6 Billion and directed the operations of over 30 district cooling plants in 7 cities.
  • Project Manager at Mubadala Development Company from 2006 to 2007. Responsible for managing all project related activities for two major projects 1. Hydrogen Power Plant Project and 2. Carbon capture and storage project, which were the founding stones to the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar. Also contributed to Masdar's strategic planning, business operations, policies and procedures as well as the stakeholders's management with clients, partners, UAE Government agencies and Masdar units within the organizational framework.
  • Deputy Plant Manager at Borouge from 2004 till 2006 overseeing the operational activities within the petrochemical plant related maintenance, engineering, inventory management and plant development projects.
  • Worked as a Mechanical Project/Design Engineer in M-E Engineers (USA) from 1998 to 2000. Selected as a recent graduate to a leading mechanical and electrical engineering firm in Colorado, USA, which specializes in mechanical and electrical systems design for major real estate, sporting facilities (American football fields, ballparks & basketball arenas) and office buildings.

Achievements[edit]

  • Developed and implemented the ADNOC MS&T strategy, which was launched at the ADNOC Trading Forum[6] on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in 2019. Oversaw the shift of ADNOC MS&T into a fully integrated marketing, supply and trading organization, with the goal to unlock and deliver greater value to ADNOC, its customers and partners, and the UAE.
  • Quadrupled the number of UAE nationals and doubled the Tawteen percentage in KIZAD within 3 years to exceed 35% and introduced innovative development programs for the UAE nationals to equip them with job-related technical, business and interpersonal skills and knowledge.

Khaled Salmeen holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from Colorado School of Mines in the United States and a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Harvard Business School.[7]

He acquired a Global Executive MBA[8] from the leading Executive Business School INSEAD.

Board Positions[edit]

Khaled Salmeen sits on several corporate boards, to provide leadership and advice on issues related to energy, economics, trading and sustainability.

He serves on the boards of ADNOC Logistics and Services, ADNOC Refining and ADNOC Distribution,[9] ADNOC Global Trading (AGT), ADNOC Trading (AT), ICE Futures Abu Dhabi (IFAD) and VTTI.

Khaled Salmeen is a member of the ADNOC Executive Management Team.[10]
