Khalil Tate is an American football quarterback for the Arizona Wildcats of the University of Arizona.

Career[edit]

High school career[edit]

Khalil Tate attended Junipero Serra High School in Inglewood, California. Tate was a consensus 4-star recruit and named the top-ten dual threat quarterback by ESPN.[1]. On March 16, 2015 Tate committed to play college football for the Arizona Wildcats.

College football career[edit]

2016 season[edit]

Tate enrolled in school early for the 2016 spring semester. [2]. Tate started his first college game at the age of 17, he was the first true freshman to start a game at Arizona since Willie Tuitama. Tate was originally to red-shirt his freshman year but was forced to start due to Injuries [1].

In his freshman year Tate started 1 game and played in 7 total; he ran for 237 yards with a touchdown and passed for 243 yards, throwing 3 touchdowns and three interceptions [3].

2017 season[edit]

Khalil Tate did not start the first 4 games of the 2017 season, however he did play on occasion; with 9 passes attempted, 86 yards rushing with no scores. In week 6 Tate entered the game against Colorado following a first quarter injury to then Wildcat starter Brandon Dawkins, Tate would go on to set the FBS record for quarterback rushing yards in a game with 327 yards. Khalil tate was named Pac-12 Offensive player of the week. Tate would be named starting quarterback, and go on to beat UCLA and Cal with a total of 367 yards, averaging 15.6 yards per carry. [3].

Khalil Tate was additionally named Pac-12 Offensive player of the week following the wins against UCLA, Cal, and Washington St. becoming the first ever play achieve this award four consecutive weeks, and the second ever play to win four with Matt Barkley. [4]. Following Tate's 4th consecutive 100 yard rushing game with 275 passing yards against Washington St.; he was added to the Maxwell award watch-list[5]
