Khantoli is essentially a village of Brahmins of surname ‘Pant’.
A local Deity Dhoulinag (white Snake) on Khantoli hill top oversees around 50 villages of the Valley. From the temple one can see a series of snow covered Himalayan peaks including the famous highest Indian Nandadevi peak. It appears serpent worship in this region has existed for a long time, as nearby hilltops too have similar Berinag (Coiled Snake), Kalinag (Black Snake), Feni Nag (Hooded Snake), Kharhari Nag temples etc. All religious functions are managed by two priests, one of Pant Community and the other of Rajput Dhami community. Both hold the post as hereditary functions assigned to particular families. Dhoulinag Temple must be more than 150 years old. The old small temple is now replaced with a beautiful temple complex that has adjacent flat ground for village fairs and a possible helipad area in future.
Village has two distinct groups of houses called Pargaon and Naghar. High School is located in Pargaon. Panchayat Ghar and Community Health centre are located in Naghar. The oldest Primary school is located almost in the middle of the village at the place called Kartekhalli, a big natural stone slab.
