Khosro Berahmandi

Khosro Berahmandi is an Iranian-born Canadian multidisciplinary visual artist known for his myth-inspired, symbolist, and hybrid-figure works. Active in Montreal since 1983, he has presented more than fifty solo and group exhibitions in Canada, Europe, and the United States. Berahmandi received the Charles Biddle Award in 2022 for his contribution to cultural development in Quebec.

Early life and education

Berahmandi was born in Iran and immigrated to Canada in 1983. He studied visual arts at Concordia University in Montreal and later pursued graduate studies at the Université Paris VIII in France.

Career

Berahmandi’s artistic practice explores mythology, cultural symbolism, hybrid creatures, memory, and identity. His work includes painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, and has been exhibited in Montreal, Toronto, Paris, and New York.

Festival Accès Asie

Berahmandi was involved with the Festival Accès Asie for more than twenty-five years, serving in various artistic and organizational roles throughout his tenure. For the last twelve years of his involvement, he was the festival’s Artistic Director. He played a central role in developing intercultural programming, expanding the festival’s national visibility, and strengthening the representation of Asian-Canadian artists in Quebec. He retired from this position in 2023.
