Killer Litter
Killer litter refers to objects thrown or falling from high buildings, endangering the people below. Throwing killer litter is a criminal offence in Singapore. If you are convicted under the Penal Code for an offence relating to throwing of killer litter, you are liable to a maximum jail term of 5 years, or both.[clarification needed]
Killer litter is very dangerous as you will not be aware of the falling object. Thus, you may get hit at any time if the person above is careless and drops the object down. If the object is something heavy or sharp, the injury may be very severe, sometimes even fatal. Such objects can be glass bottles, flower pots, etc.
There have been many cases where people have thrown objects from HDBs. One such example is Maslina Ramlee, a Singaporean. She had thrown five metal pots, a computer central processing unit (CPU), computer monitor, sound bar and Hi-Fi set out of the window of her flat in a public housing block in Bishan. The items landed on the ground floor along a grass patch and on a concrete walkway, which residents would use to go to a nearby exercise corner and neighbouring blocks. Fortunately, no one was struck by them. However, imagine how severe the injury would have been if the computer monitor or the metal pots had fallen on someone's head. The 46-year-old woman was sentenced to six weeks’ jail.
There are many other examples to show you, but they are all related to the same topic, which is killer litter. The point is you should not throw objects down from high-rise buildings as they may hit someone and are very dangerous to the community. Hence, do dispose of your litter in the rubbish bin.
