The Killing of Dave Oren Ward was an incident that took place on April 2, 1999 in Hollywood, California. According to reports by those involved and witnesses, in what began as an incident of road rage which escalated into an altercation between two actors, Nate Moore and Dave Ward, and others that ultimately resulted in the death of Ward.[1]
Incident[edit]
Ward and two other actors, Justin Bowman and Daniel Eppard, became involved in a road rage incident with Moore on the night of April 2, 1999. The altercation led to Moore stabbing and killing Ward with an eight inch martial arts dagger that Moore kept under his car floor mat of his 1978 Lincoln Continental.[2]
Bowman, Eppard, and Ward were out on the night of April 2, 1999 for drinks. As they drove south on Harper Avenue, they found a vehicle driven by Nate Moore blocking the way. Though Moore moved his car to allow them to pass, Ward shouted angrily at him as they drove by, and Moore began following the other car. As both cars paused for a stop sign, Moore and Ward got into a verbal altercation, then a physical one. Though Eppard and Bowman attempted to separate the two, the fight ended with Moore using a martial arts blade he carried to stab Ward. Moore also severely injured himself with the blade in the course of the scuffle. Eppard, the only one not injured during the altercation, drove Bowman and Ward through West Hollywood to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.[2]
Ward died hours later at Cedars-Sinai.[2]
Plea[edit]
Moore pled no contest to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.[2]

Nate Moore attended the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and the Juilliard School. His father died when he was 20, and he was expelled from Juilliard shortly after.[2] He arrived in Los Angeles in August 1996 and was represented by talent agent Larry Corsa.[2] Moore acted in such films as Desert Blue starring Christina Ricci.[2] Moore was a US Army reservist. He also practiced jujitsu, Thai kick-boxing, and tae kwon do.[2]
