The Kilsyth Cobras are a Basketball Club based in the eastern suburb of Kilsyth, Victoria. The Club administers over 1000 domestic teams and has a representative team that plays in the NBL1 South.
History
The Kilsyth and Mountain District Basketball Association Inc. (K&MDBA) was established in 1963 to promote and control basketball in Kilsyth and surrounding districts, principally by conducting competitions for basketballers registered with the Association. Today, Kilsyth Basketball is one of the largest Basketball Associations in Victoria, responsible for over 1,050 domestic Basketball teams with over 10,000 registered players playing the game of Basketball each week in its venues and competitions.
The Kilsyth Cobras are the representative teams of Kilsyth Basketball. At the senior level, the Cobras compete in the prestigious NBL1 – Australia’s premier winter competition – and also field men’s and women’s development teams in the Victorian Youth Championship Competition (VYC). The Association also has over 30 junior boys and girls representative teams that compete in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL).
Kilsyth have also competed in the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL), South East Australian Basketball League, Victorian Basketball Association, and Australian Basketball Association.
NBL1
In 2019 the NBL1 competition was introduced to precede the former South East Australian Basketball League. In 2019, Kilsyth Cobras were the inaugural champions of the Women’s Competition, defeating Geelong Supercats 86 - 76, and quarter-finalists[1] in the Men’s Division before the setup of the conference system in the competition. The teams now compete in the NBL1 South Conference.
