Kim Hae-Joon (comedian and creator)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Kim Hae-Jun (Korean: 김해준, born Kim Min-Ho (김민호); February 8th, 1987) is a South Korean comedian and creator, who signed with the SandBox Network Inc in 2020.

Early Life[edit]

Kim Hae-Jun was born in Seoul on February 8, 1987. He was an active Taekwondo player from the age of 6 to 19.[1]

He began to pursue a career in comedy in his mid 20's before making his debut 6 years later. In his interview on You Quiz on the Block, he spoke candidly about the difficulties that aspiring comedians face stating, ; "Most aspiring comedians work a lot for a living. So did I. I worked as a truck driver for a refrigerator company, security guard, and worker at a wholesale and food factory. I desperately wanted to become a comedian. Although I was always fully confident, I got nervous quite often and made mistakes. I felt desperate, which got me more anxious and stressed. It was like a vicious cycle. But I believed in myself. I never thought that I would fail."[2]

Career[edit]

Beginnings[edit]

Kim Hae-Jun made his debut on a segment, Dog President (Korean; 개통령) in Comedy Big League on January 7th, 2018. He played the main character, Lee Wong-Jong, a parody character of the famous dog handler Lee Woong-jong in the two-person segment. He ranked fifth among all other segments in the show. It was unusual for new comedians to rank on the show without the support from senior comedians.[3]

He acted as a sub-character, Producer Bang, in a play, 'It's! Home Shopping Corporation(Korean; 잇츠! 홈쇼핑 주식회사[4])' in 2020.

Psick University[edit]

As a guest member of Psick University(Korean; 피식대학), a comic YouTube Channel produced by his close comedian peers, Hae-Jun performed two mega-hit characters, 'Choi Joon[5]' and 'Cool J'.[6]

Choi Joon is a character who appears in the comedy sketch segment "B-rated Online Date", and is known for his signature character and image, comma-shaped bangs and cringe-worthy catchphrases. Choi studied abroad in numerous countries, including Ethiopia (because he likes coffee), Chile (because he likes wine), Finland in the United States (because he likes Santa Claus), Ghana (because he likes chocolate) and Florida in the United States (because he likes nude beaches). While people thought the character was peculiar at first, his popularity soon caught on, his reputation became known as charming and sweet.[7]

Choi Joon's Your Song My Song' is another series where 'Choi Joon' sings with his guest who is invited to the show.[8] 28 professional singers have joined the segment as of September 2021.

Cool J, the fashionable owner of Dongdaemun clothing store, appears in the content "Class 05 Is Back." He gained popularity by both men and women for his blunt personality and charisma. The character brought back older fashion with his sleeveless shirts, beanie hats, and fake beard that were popular in the early 2000's.[9]

YouTube Channel; Kim Hae-Jun[edit]

In 2019, Hae-Jun started a YouTube channel called 'Yeonnam Brothers' with his friend and fellow comedian, Kim Jae-Hyeon.

Now, he runs his independent channel, Kim Hae-Jun(Korean;김해준) with 378K subscribers as of September 2021. He performs his two main characters, Choi-Joon and Cool J, in his own comedy segments. His channel recently launched a new bluffing persona, On-Sae-Mi-Ro, an anonymous office worker and YouTube creator.
