Kim Hak-woo (Korean: 김학우, Hanja: 金鶴羽, 1862 ~ October 3rd 1894) was a politician of the late Joseon Dynasty. As the member of the Kim Hong-jip cabinet he participated in the Kabo Reform, and was later murdered by the assassin Yi Jun-yong and his associates dispatched.
Life
On July 15th, 1894, he was appointed the position of Vice Minster of Justice,[1] and Acting of Minister of Justice on July 19th the same year.[2] Around 8 p.m. on October 3rd 1894, he was murdered by assassins Jeon Dongsuk (전동석, 田東錫) and Choi Hyungsik (최형식, 崔亨植), sent by Yi Jun-yong and his associates.[3]
Hangul Morse code
As an advocate for Korea’s modernization, he suggested to the King Gojong of Korea that Korea develop a telegraph network. Gojong approved of this and sent him to Japan to prepare of this. While in Japan, he developed Hangul Morse code, which got published in the text Jeonbo Jangjung (전보장정; 電報章程; telegram rule) in 1888 and was officially adopted, still being used in the same form ever since.
