Miss Mundo 1980
Kimberley got the second place, defeated by Gabriella Brum, who defeated 66 other contestants in the contest at the Royal Albert Hall, London, November 13, 1980.
The renunciaton of Gabriella and the coronation of Kimberley
About 18 hours after being elected, Gabriella renounced the title fot having posed naked before the contest, according to The Guardian and Le Journal de Québec. Kimberley was crowned in her country, in Ypao Beach, by Mary Stavin, Miss Mundo 1977.[2][3][3][4] (access image of a newspaper published in Hola magazine, 1895 edition).
Reign
Kimberley accepted the crown right after Gabriella's renunciation, but her reign didn't start well, in January, 1981 her boyfriend François Reyes committed suicide for not being able to live far from her during her year of activities. According to the french magazine Paris Match in 2016, he sat in front of her with the gun in his hands and fired. She said she would've tried to take the gun from his hands, but he had his fingers on the trigger.[5]
