The Kingdom of Mactan was a kingdom founded by the first hero of modern Philippines, Lapu-Lapu in March 1521. The kingdom became independent from its neighbor, the Rajahnate of Sugbu.
Battle of Mactan[edit]
On April 27, 1521, the Battle of Mactan was the first war of Mactan after independence. Ferdinand Magellan was assassinated by Datu Lapu-Lapu during the war. Lapu-Lapu became the true hero of Mactan. After the war, both New Spain and the Rajahnate of Cebu lost.
Conquest by Spain[edit]
On June 4, 1565, the Kingdom of Mactan was later conquested by the Governor-General of the Spanish East Indies, Miguel López de Legazpi.
