Kiran Kumari

Kiran Kumari is an author and scholar known for her works on India's diverse cultural heritage. She holds an M.A. in Sanskrit, an M.A. in Philosophy, an M.Ed., and a Ph.D. She served as an Assistant Professor of Sanskrit and Philosophy at Gangadevi Mahila Mahavidyalay in Patna, Bihar, for over 30 years. Over the course of her academic career, she published more than 80 research papers in various national and international journals. She retired from her position as Assistant Professor in 2023 and continues her work as a writer.

Her writings explore various aspects of Indian culture, including an in-depth analysis of multiple states' traditions and histories. She has authored several books on Mahatma Gandhi, offering a distinctive perspective on his life and philosophy. Additionally, her works examine the intersections between Indian culture and science, providing a unique scholarly viewpoint. She has also written on the Mahabharata, presenting an alternative interpretation of religion within its narrative. Most of her books have been published by B.R. Publishing Corporation.

Personal life

Kiran Kumari was born on 28 December 1958 to Late Sharda Kumar Turior, a retired Indian Administrative Service (I.A.S) officer, and Late Jagdeshwari Devi. She has remained unmarried.

Career

Kiran Kumari has a passion for teaching, which led her to join Gangadevi Mahila Mahavidyalay, Patna, Bihar, as a Lecturer in October 1985. She was promoted to the position of Assistant Professor in April 1994 and served in this capacity until her retirement in December 2023.

She has been an author since 1995, with her first book, वैदिक कालीन शिक्षा, published by Sadbhavna Prakashan, Patna.

In addition to her academic contributions, Kiran Kumari has worked as an editor for several prestigious publications. She edited The Journal of the Bihar History Congress (Inaugural Issue, 2000), The Journal of the Bihar Puravid Parisad (Vol. XXI-XXII, 2010), and The Journal of the Bihar Puravid Parisad (Vol. XXVII-XXXIII, 2021). She also contributed as an editor to Patliputra in Art, Archaeology and Literature: In Honour of Prof. Kameshwar Prasad, published by B.R. Publishing, Delhi, in 2019.
