Kirk Knuffke

Kirk Knuffke (born April 21, 1980) is an American cornetist and composer based in New York City..[1]

Career[edit]

Knuffke was born in Colorado and moved to New York City in 2005 where he began playing with Butch Morris [2]. Knuffke has recorded and toured with guitarist Charlie Hunter and drummers Matt Wilson and Allison Miller[3]. Knuffke won DownBeat's Rising Star Award for trumpet in 2015 [4]and placed ninth in DownBeat's Annual Critic's Poll for trumpet in 2018 [5]. His 2017 album CherryCo was names NPR's Jazz Album of the Year by critic Francis Davis[6]. Knuffke is self-taught [7] but has studied privately with Ron Miles [8] and Ornette Coleman [9]
