Kirk Knuffke (born April 21, 1980) is an American cornetist and composer based in New York City..

Career

Knuffke was born in Colorado and moved to New York City in 2005 where he began playing with Butch Morris . Knuffke has recorded and toured with guitarist Charlie Hunter and drummers Matt Wilson and Allison Miller. Knuffke won DownBeat's Rising Star Award for trumpet in 2015 and placed ninth in DownBeat's Annual Critic's Poll for trumpet in 2018 . His 2017 album CherryCo was names NPR's Jazz Album of the Year by critic Francis Davis. Knuffke is self-taught but has studied privately with Ron Miles and Ornette Coleman
