Kirkwall Power Station
References[edit]
The power station opened in 1951, and was the main power supply for Orkney, until the Sub-Sea cable was laid in 1982. Now it is a standby station. It houses four Mirrlees Blackstone diesel engines with a total capacity of 16MW. It housed a 2MW battery until 2017.
Construction started in 1949, and the station was ready in 1951, two years before Lerwick Power Station.<ref>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lerwick_Power_Station>
