Knaies
Knaïes [1] is a village located in the Msaken region, Sousse governorate, Tunisia, 8 km southwest of Msaken. The monuments found in Knaïes[2] indicate that its history extends back more than 5,000 years.
The Carthaginians ruled for seven centuries, followed by Roman rule from 146 BC to 439 AD. Zita is the Roman name for the city of Knaïes.
According to the chronicles of Caesar, the history of Tunisia was known in the second century AD. This era saw the prosperity of peasant construction and the creation of many cultural landmarks, such as an open-air theatre and a Roman cave theatre.
It was also known during the Islamic era, beginning in the mid-seventh century AD (648 AD/27 AH).
It was a strategic location during the Aghlabid era, serving as a transit point linking Kairouan to Sousse and Mahdia.
