Knights & Legends Tabletop RPG[edit]

Knights & Legends Tabletop RPG (abbreviated as K&L or KL) is a medieval high fantasy tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) originally designed by the author known as J.F. It was published in 2018 by the domain known as (KnightsTTRPG.com). The game was made available in two formats (Digital Edition) (Hardcopy Edition). It was derived from miniature medieval fantasy dioramas with variations of mythology serving as the inspiration. K&L's publication is commonly recognized as a step forward in modern role-playing games and the Indie role-playing game recognition.

Knights & Legends assigns each player a specific character to play (Playable Character) (PC). These fictional characters embark upon imaginary adventures within the fantasy world of Ezora. A Dungeon Master or Game Master serves as the game's narrator and storyteller while maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur, also playing the role of Non Playable Characters (NPC). The characters form a party to go on adventures and interact with other settings, including each other. Together they solve quests, engage in combat, and gather useful items and treasure.

Game overview[edit]

Knights & Legends is a loose open-ended role-playing game. It is normally played indoors with the participants seated around a table. Each player controls their created character, which represents an individual in a fictional setting. Working together as a group, these playable characters (PCs) are often described as a "party" of adventurers, with each member often having their own area of specialty, also known as classes. During the course of play, each player directs the actions of their character and their interactions with other characters in the game. This activity is performed through the verbal impersonation of the characters by the players, while employing a variety of social and other useful cognitive skills, such as logic, basic mathematics and imagination. A game session often continues over a series of meetings to complete a single adventure, and longer into a series of related gaming adventures, called a "campaign".

Choices and the overall story for the game are determined by the Game Master (GM) according to the rules of the game and the GM's interpretation of those rules. The GM selects and describes the various non-playable characters (NPCs) that the party encounters, the settings in which these interactions occur, and the outcomes of those encounters based on the players' choices and actions. Enemy Encounters (EE) often take the form of battles. The game's attributes (Stats) – which govern diverse subjects such as social interactions, magic use, combat, and other interactions – help the GM to make these decisions. The GM may choose to deviate from the published rules or make up new ones if they feel it is necessary.

The only items required to play the game are the book, a character sheet for each player, a adventure sheet for the Game Master and a set of polyhedral dice, if one is not available players may choose to use the "Digital Polyhydral Version". Many players also use miniature figures on a custom map as a visual aid, particularly during combat.

Edition History[edit]

Free Digital Edition
The original Knights & Legends, now referred to as K&L: TCE (The Complete Edition), is a small book published in 2018. It was amateurish in production and assumed the player was familiar with Game Mastering and Adventure Crafting. Nevertheless, it grew rapidly in popularity, first among other tabletop rpg fans and then expanding to a more general audience of college and high school students. Roughly 3,000 copies of the game were downloaded in the first week and counting.

Paid Hardcopy Edition
Offered through Blurb.com, over 238 hardcopies were sold on the first week. As a result of this parallel development, the basic game included the main content with extra character and adventure sheets for personal improvisation.
