Koba Kharadze (Georgian: კობა ხარაძე; 20 October 1940 – 16 August 2021) was a Georgian geographer. Doctor of Geographical Sciences (1993), professor.[1]
Biography
Koba Kharadze was born on 20 October 1940, in the village of Chkhari Terjola Municipality, Georgia.[1]
In 1966 he finished the Kutaisi Pedagogical Institute. From 1966 until 1969 he worked as a teacher at schools of Tsalka Municipality and Tetritsqaro Municipality. In 1969, Koba Kharadze successfully passed the entrance exams for a post-graduate course at Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography of Georgian Academy of Sciences where he was supervised by a prominent Georgian geographer Levan Maruashvili.[2]
His scientific works concerned Historical geography and History of Geography. His dedication to this work is very important for Georgian Geographical Sciences.[3] He produced over 500 scientific and scientific-popular works, of which 37 are monographs and 7 course-books for high and secondary schools. Koba Kharadze has written four fundamental books in Historical geography: Zemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti, with which he completed his studies of Historical geography of Eastern Georgia.[4]
These works were published in the following sequence: in 1991, the publishing house "Metsniereba" published his monograph "Historical geography of Georgia, Kvemo Kartli"; in 1992, the publishing house "Ganatleba" published "Historical geography of Georgia, Shida Kartli"; in 2000, "Historical geography of Georgia, Zemo Kartli" was published by "Metsniereba"; and in 2010, "Historical geography of Kakheti (XVIII)".[2]
Koba Kharadze was awarded the Medal of Vakhushti Bagrationi, the Medal of Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani and the Medal of Ivane Javakhishvili.[5] In 2005, he was entered in the Encyclopedia of American Biographical Institute "Who's Who", and awarded the title "man of the year".[3]
