Daniel Koch and Derek Koch (born March 24, 1982) collectively known as Koch Brothers, are American twin brothers engaged in the hospitality, film and real-estate industry.[2][3][4] Koch Brothers are serial entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and investors best known for their hospitality company, Dual Groupe, restaurant/nightclub TOY, and an event concept Day & Night.[5][6] The brothers have also produced a TV show – Playing With Fire (TV series)|Playing with Fire, which was aired on the E! Network.[7][8][9][10][11]

Early life and education

Daniel and Derek Koch were born on March 24, 1982, in Wheeling, West Virginia. The twins grew up in Martins Ferry, Ohio in a middle-class family along with three other siblings. While growing up, they attended Bellaire St. John Central High School, where they participated in several extracurricular activities such as wrestling, track, and football.[12][13]

Later, the twins enrolled at the Ohio State University where they would walk-on the wrestling team and compete for one season, but soon dropped out to pursue modeling.

Career

The Koch brothers moved to New York in September 2002 after dropping out of college to pursue a career in modeling with their manager Oscar Reyes at Trump Management and also to study filmmaking at NYU SPS. A year later, they got featured in the 2003 edition of Cosmopolitan magazine.

The Koch brothers’ first job was at Le Bilboquet as servers, where they learned about the hospitality industry.[14][15]

Soon after they graduated from NYU SPS, the Koch brothers joined In The Buzz, an event marketing and promotions firm based in Midtown, New York, as marketing directors.[16][17]

In 2007, the Koch brothers started their first entrepreneurial venture with Blake Seo and Frederick Lesort - Jour et Nuit, a restaurant-club.[18] A year later, the brothers founded Dual Groupe, a hospitality-marketing and promotional company, under which they started a renowned event concept, Day & Night.[19][20][21]

In 2010, the Koch brothers opened MPD with the Ginza Project, a Russian hospitality group.[22] Later the duo also opened an Asian-Fusion restaurant-nightclub, TOY with Jeffrey Chodorow at the Hotel Gansevoort, and French Restaurant Château Cherbuliez in the former nightclub venue, Limelight.[23][24][25][26][27]

In 2013, the Koch brothers co-produced their own TV show – Playing with Fire, which aired on the E! Network.[28][29] In 2014, the Koch Brothers became creative directors at Space Ibiza New York.[30][31]

Koch Brothers are also licensed real estate brokers and members of Toni Haber Team, New York, and Mark Von Der Burg, Seattle.[32][33]

Personal life

Daniel Koch was a three-sport star during high school, and after graduation, he became a member of the Ohio State wrestling team, whereas Derek was a state champion wrestler in high school.
