Michael Lee (born April 18, 1989), known professionally as Kolyon is an American rapper and songwriter.[1]. His style is described as gangsta rap, with his lyrics often exploring street life and associated themes. Lee began rapping whilst serving a 4-year jail sentence for robbery, winning the prison's talent competition[2]. He has been a Florida phenomenon since at least 2011, releasing music as part of a duo with rapper Dirty 1000, and starting a regional dance wave with his "Do the Koly'On" single. He rose to popularity in 2016 following the release of his first solo mixtape Koly Bible, which most notably caught the attention of Louisiana rapper Boosie Badazz. He went on to release "Gooked Out", a single featuring Boosie and fellow Florida rapper Kodak Black. The same year, Kolyon joined the Bad Azz Music Syndicate [3] and released two more mixtapes, Koly Luther King and Real Diamonds. Lee would release 3 more projects; Rap Game Messiah in 2017, Koly Bible 2 in 2018, and Book of Mike Lee in 2019[4]. His discography has amassed more than 50 million streams on music and video streaming services such as MyMixtapez, Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube[4]. Lee gained media attention in 2018 when he live streamed himself in an ambulance after getting shot twice in a drive-by (and performing at a Tampa strip club only 48 hours later)[5]. Since the incident occurred, the viral video has received over 65,000 views and thousands of re-tweets [6]. Following his breakthrough, Lee established the Koly P Foundation, a non-profit organisation to help indigent children pursue their dreams [7]. Although not a mainstream success, Lee is well known and respected in Florida and to some extent around the country. His popularity tends to skew more toward the more streets-oriented side of hip hop[8]
