Konathala Ramakrishna is an Indian politician, educationalist, businessman and former MP.
Early life
Konathala Ramakrishna was born in a business and trading family on January 4, 1957, in Gavarapalem, Anakapalle.[1] His father is Konathala Subhramanyam, a renowned merchant in the town. He completed his education in Anakapalli Lingamurthy College (A.M.A.L) College, Anakapalli. He completed his graduation from Andhra University and got an M.A. degree.
Political life
He joined the Indian national congress in 1980. He stood as an MP for Anakapalli Lok Sabha constituency in 1989 and defeated his opponent P. Appalanarasimham of the Telugu Desam Party by 9 votes and was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha. He defeated the same candidate in 1991 and was elected to the Lok Sabha. He contested a third time and lost to Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu by 50,000 votes.[2]
He shifted to the Assembly and contested from Anakapalli and lost to Dadi Veerabhadra Rao in 1999. He again contested and won with a majority of 17,033 votes in 2004 and became Minister for Commercial taxes and excise in Y.S.R cabinet. He lost in the 2009 elections.[3]. He is considered a stalwart of Visakhapatnam district. Konathala and Dadi Veerabhadra Rao are political rivals[1]
