Konda Murali (also known as Konda Muralidhar Rao) is a former naxal[1], and current Indian politician from Telangana and a leader of the Indian National Congress. He has served two terms as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC).[2] He is the husband of Konda Surekha, who has served as a minister in the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Early life
Konda Murali is from Geesugonda Warangal, Telangana.[3]
Political career
He was nominated as an MLC by the then Congress government for the term 2009-15. Later, Murali was nominated as an MLC by then Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao during the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government. He later rejoined the Indian National Congress along with his wife Konda Surekha in 2018.[4]
He has remained active in Congress politics in the Warangal region, campaigning for his wife's successful 2023 Assembly election bid from Warangal East.[5]
Personal life
Konda Murali is married to Konda Surekha, an Indian National Congress politician who has served as a cabinet minister. The couple have a daughter, Konda Susmitha.[6]
Popular Culture
The life story Murali and Surekha inspired the 2022 Telugu political crime thriller film Konda, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, in which Murali was portrayed by Thrigun.[7]
