Korvi Rakshand (born August 19, 1985) is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur. He is the founder of JAAGO Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with education and youth development.[1] JAAGO Foundation was established in April 2007. Rakshand was ranked 5th in list of top 10 inspirational Bangladeshis around the world published by British Bangladeshi Power & Inspiration 100 at the British Parliament Commonwealth Room.[2]
Early life[edit]
Rakshand was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to Nurul Akhter, a businessman and Mafruda Khan, the chairman and principal of London Grace International School. He finished his schooling from Scholastica school and later from Mastermind School, Dhaka.
JAAGO Foundation[edit]
In 2007, he created the JAAGO Foundation.[3] With 17 students he started a free-of-cost-school in the slum area of Rayer Bazar, which now runs classes for nearly 600 students.
In March 2011, JAAGO opened another school in the Karail slum area of Banani, and in September 2011 opened its first digital school in Gazipur, Tongi.
In May 2011, JAAGO Foundation launched its volunteer wing, Volunteer for Bangladesh. At present JAAGO has 12 schools nationwide catering to the education needs of 3000 students.[4]
Volunteer for Bangladesh[edit]
The volunteer wing of JAAGO Foundation, Volunteer for Bangladesh was founded in 2011. Currently, with support from U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, Volunteer for Bangladesh has successfully established 32 Volunteer Groups throughout the country. These groups independently run their own projects under the supervision of a local district board. Volunteer for Bangladesh has already created virtual branches in Australia, Canada, UK and USA. To date, above 35,000 registered volunteers are working together to bring positive changes in their communities.
