Kory A. Rabenold (born October 14, 1988) is an American former professional stock car racing driver who has previously competed in the ARCA Racing Series.
Racing career[edit]
Rabenold first began his racing career at the age of five by driving quarter-midgets. He would then move up to Pro Four Four-Cylinders at Mahoning Speedway at the age of thirteen, where he would win rookie of the year honors and finish tenth in the points in his first year in the division. He would then finish third in points the following year whilst also receiving the Most Improved Driver accolades, and in 2004, he would go on to win the championship at the age of fifteen.[1] In 2005, he would move to the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour, where he would win rookie of the years honors on his way to finish sixth in the points.[1][2]
In 2007, Rabenold would attempt to make his ARCA Re/Max Series debut at Toledo Speedway driving the No. 7 Chevrolet for his fathers team, but would fail to qualify. They would then attempt the first race at Pocono Raceway, where they would qualify for the race, and would go on to finish 12th.[1] He would then make three more starts that year with a best finish of 16th in the series' return to both Pocono and Toledo.[1][3] In 2008, he would run a handful of races, getting a best result of 15th at Salem Speedway.[1]
In 2009, Rabenold would be signed to Andy Belmont Racing at Iowa Speedway, driving the No. 14 Ford for the remainder of the schedule, replacing Kevin Belmont, where he would finish 24th due to engine issues late in the race.[1] He would than finish in the top twenty for nine straight races with a best finish of 13th at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds dirt-track before finishing 21st and 28th at Kansas Speedway and Rockingham Speedway respectively on his way to finish 18th in the final points standings. He would run only run race in 2010, with that rcae being at Pocono that June, driving the No. 6 Toyota for Eddie Sharp Racing, where he would finish 35th after only two laps due to mechanical issues.[4]
In February 2011, Rabenold announced that he had formed his own team, Kory Rabenold Racing, and had planned to run select races in the ARCA Racing Series, with the possibility of select NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts on the cards.[5] He would make his first ARCA start of the year at Pocono in June, driving the No. 03 Chevrolet for KRR, where he would finish 16th after starting 25th.[6][7] He would return to Pocono in August, where he would start 23rd and get his best finish of the year in 15th.[8] He would then make one more start at Salem later in the year, where he would start 19th and finish 16th. The race at Salem would be his most recent event as a driver, as he has not competed in the series since then.[2]
Personal life[edit]
On December 30, 2021, Rabenold's father, Ken "Buzzy" Rabenold passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Buzzy was the owner of Buzzy's Autobody, which had served as the younger Rabenold's sponsor in his earlier ARCA starts.[9]
