Kosonsoy river in Kosonsoy region
Location

Kosonsoy is a river in the Fergana Valley. It is a right tributary of the Syr Darya. It starts from the Chatqol mountain range under the name of Chilquduqsoy and flows in an east and south-east direction. The area of the basin is 1650 km2, the average height is 2347 m. There are small glaciers at the starting point. The upper course of the river begins in the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Near the city of Kosonsoy, the river comes out of the mountain and flows in the valley between the hills. It goes in the direction of the village of Toʻraqoʻrgʻon, where it forms a large expanse. Almost all of the river's water is used for irrigation, and it is poured into the Syrdarya only when its water is high. It is fed by snow, ice and rain. The average annual water consumption is 9.81 m³/sec, the average flow modulus is 5.94 l/sec km2. More than half of the water flows from March to September. It supplies water to Ala-Buka District of Kyrgyzstan and Namangan Region of Uzbekistan. Kosonsoy Reservoir was built on the river.[1]
