Kotor Kitties
Kotor Kitties is a registered charity operating in Kotor, Montenegro which aims to care for the area’s high feral cat population through providing veterinary care and neutering programmes.[1]
History
Kotor Kitties was founded in 2018 by an American tourist to help control the local feral cat population. Work began immediately with the first cat, Luka, being neutered in an attempt to help slow the rapid population growth. This approach has since been rolled out on a greater scale by employing a trap and neuter programme (TNR) with help from volunteers throughout Montenegro.
Kotor Kitties was granted 501(c)(3) charitable status in February 2019 in the USA and registered as a UK charity (number 1189591) in May 2020.[2],[3]
Charitable Work
One year after its inception, Kotor Kitties funded nearly 900 spays and neuters of stray cats, with local vets performing the surgeries.[4] Within 18 months over 1,500 cats had benefitted from the program.[5]
