Kourosh Babaei (Persian: کوروش بابایی‎; Kourosh Babaei, born April 22, 1971) is an Iranian-Canadian musician,[1] Kamancheh player and composer, as well as an expert in Iranian classical music. He is a well-known musician and composer, both in Iran and abroad.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Kourosh was born on April 22, 1971, in Abadan, Iran.[2] He started his music training by self-studying the violin. He studied traditional arrangements with Ostad Ardeshir Kamkar, choosing Kamancheh as his main instrument. He is also a violin player of traditional Iranian music.

Career and collaborations[edit]

Kourosh has collaborated with famous Iranian traditional musicians.[3] He started collaborating with well-known international musicians once he decided to expand his music worldwide, focusing on the fusion genre. In addition, he has composed music for individual artists, classical, and traditional orchestras throughout his profession.

Kourosh has been a player and performer of more than 150 music albums.[4]

Kourosh also attended most Fusion-Contemporary festivals and concerts in many countries. Moreover, two of his latest collaborations in a different genre, co-created with Björn Meyer and Christoph Rezaei, have attracted the attention of many other artists and art organizations who invited them to participate and perform in several international festivals.

He married Mojgan Teleschian in 2006, and they have a daughter (Tiba Babaei, born 2009). Kourosh Babaei moved to Toronto, Canada, in 2016 with his family to explore and expand his music.
