Kristian Day
Kristian Day (born September 11th, 1985).[1], is an American director, producer, composer, writer, and radio host. He is most notable for his work in unscripted and documentary television[1][2][3]. He hosts a weekly punk radio show on KFMG called Iowa Basement Tapes, a regular columnist for Cityview Des Moines and an occasional contributor for Horrorhound Magazine[4][5][3]
Day's first interest was in experimental music. He recorded sounds from household objects and circuit bent electronics[2]. His first film credit was as an original composer on films such as Marcus Koch's 100 Tears (2007) and Ron Atkins' Mutilation Mile (2009)[1]. At age 25 he directed his first short film, Bird Seed (2010) as well as his first feature-length documentary, Brent Houzenga: Hybrid Pioneer (2010)[1].[6][7]. Brent Houzenga: Hybrid Pioneer (2010) won "Best Foreign Documentary" at the 2011 DIY Film Fest in Poland[8]. Throughout his late twenties Day produced and directed a handful of experimental horror shorts including A Woman Who Writes (2010), which screened at the Nihilist Film Festival in 2011 and Cactua (2010) which screened at the 2011 Danube Video Art Festival, the 2011 Magmart Video Art Festival, and the 2011 Athens Video Art Festival[9]. Cactua was included as part of the 2017 Iowa Public Television program, The Film Lounge[10]. In 2011, Day produced and directed his first television documentary, Templeton Rye: Iowa's Good Stuff, which premiered on October 2nd, 2011[11][12].
Alongside working for numerous television shows like The Bachelor, Who Do You Think You Are?, and MTV's True Life, Day has produced both scripted and unscripted content for companies including Funny Or Die (Triumph's 2016 Election Watch), Documentary Japan (The Real Voices), and ITV (Good Morning Britain)[13][14][1]. In 2018, he produced the short, Bath Bomb for Crypt TV[15][16].
During September 2015, Day couch surfed Los Angeles for thirty days while on production of season twenty of The Bachelor. He stayed with a new stranger every two nights. Newspaper journalist, Kyle Munson, wrote a feature about the experience in the January 9th, 2016 issue of the Des Moines Register[17]
