Kristina Ten

Kristina Ten is an American writer and the author of the short story collection Tell Me Yours, I’ll Tell You Mine (2025). Her fiction appears in McSweeney’s, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Lightspeed, Uncanny, Gulf Coast, Passages North, and elsewhere. Her stories have been anthologized in The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy[1], awarded the Stephen Dixon Award for Short Fiction [2], and named finalists for the Shirley Jackson Award [3] and the Locus Award[4]. She was a 2024 Ragdale Foundation writer-in-residence.[5]

Early Life and Education

Ten was born in Moscow[6] and immigrated with her parents to Tucson, Arizona, as a child.[7] She is of mixed Russian and Korean descent.[8]

Ten received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emerson College and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from the University of Colorado Boulder[9], where she taught undergraduate writing classes[10] and edited the literary journal TIMBER[11]. She played volleyball competitively through college.[12] In 2019, she attended the Clarion West Writers Workshop.[13]

Style and Themes

Ten’s writing combines elements of literary fiction and speculative fiction subgenres including slipstream, horror, folklore, fairy tales, fantasy, and science fiction. Her work is concerned with themes of migration, diaspora, gender, identity, alienation, disobedience, and autonomy.
