Krum Bums

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Krum Bums are a street punk band from Austin, Texas. Influential music genres include grunge, punk, and classic metal[1] The band formed in 2000 with original members consisting of David Rodriquez (Dave Tejas), Javier Vigil, Trae Martinez (Trae Dog), and Chuck Bum.[2][3]

Background

In an interview with Dying Scene in 2011, Dave Tejas described how the band got the name Krum Bums. "While taking an introspective trip on 'the weed', watching The Simpsons, something incredible happened. During this episode, Principal Skinner called the bad kids 'you crumb bums'. In an unenthusiastic, yet very enthusiastic way, I said to Trae, 'that should be the name of our band – Krum Bums'.[3]

Justin Hall, guitarist, claimed he learned how to play the guitar by listening to Metallica. Other metal bands that had an influence on Hall include Slayer, Sepultura, and Iron Maiden.[1] Later on hardcore-punk bands became central to Hall's musical influences. Hall has also given reference to the Great Depression as a source for the band’s name.

After Hall joined in 2003, guitar chords became more complex than three-chord progressions.[2] The band toured with Subhumans playing a show in El Paso, Texas on September 9, 2007. Hall stated he was, "very excited and very honored to be touring with them".[1] Dave Tejas commented in 2008 that when the band first formed their goal was "to play and get free drinks". By 2011, Tejas stated the album became more personal in that it talks more about their lives than previous albums.[4] 2011 also marked the first year the Krum Bums played the Punk Rock Bowling festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. Later, in the same year, the band toured Europe hitting Germany, Spain, France, Sweden, and Portugal.[5] John Hale also directed music videos for "Gasoline" and "Same Old Story" in 2011.

In 2017, Dave Tejas joined the Casualties as their frontman amid Jorge Herrera’s departure. Tejas cites the Casualties as the first band to take the Krum Bums on tour as well as the first to take them to Europe.[6]
