Krzysztof Pietroszek is a filmmaker,[1] tech entrepreneur,[2] and an Associate Professor in the Film and Media Arts Division of the School of Communication and the Department of Computer Science at the American University in Washington, DC. He is the Founding Director of the Institute for Immersive Designs, Experiences, Applications, and Stories (Institute for IDEAS[3]) at American University and the Associate Director of the Center for Environmental Filmmaking.[4] He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University.

As a filmmaker, Krzysztof produced a Canadian feature Waiting for Summer and directed a number of short films.[1] He is also a writer/director/producer of the volumetric transmedia project Vera, where volumetric miniature,[5] interactive volumetric virtual reality theater The Meeting, traditional film entitled Dill Pickle,[6] and Vera:360[7] film are used as a media of adaptation for Katherine Mansfield's short story. Krzysztof also wrote and produced three tabletop volumetric stories for children: Plato, the Cave Pebble,[8] Greeny, the Brave Oak Leaf,[9] and The Candle and the Lamp,[10] based on his children books.[11]

Krzysztof's research involves designing volumetric capture equipment,[12] telemedicine technologies, persuasive virtual and augmented reality, games for change, human-computer interaction,[13] and interactive narrative and montage techniques for virtual (VR), augmented (AR),[14] and mixed(MR) reality.[15][16] Krzysztof's research and artistic practice is supported by National Science Foundation, Canada Media Fund, and other federal and private funding sources.

Krzysztof Pietroszek has four graduate degrees: M.F.A. in Film Directing from York University, M.A. in Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Wroclaw, and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
