The Kulliyyah of Medicine (KOM)[1] is the medical school affiliated with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), in Kuantan, Pahang. Established in 1997, it offers both undergraduate and postgraduate medical programs. The faculty's curriculum integrates modern medical education with Islamic principles, especially the concept of Tawhid.[1]

Campus and facilities

In 1997, IIUM signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, formalizing the use of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital, Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, and Hospital Pekan for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

The university's location is part of the development plan for the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) and Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Pahang and southern Terengganu.[2]

Clinical training is conducted mainly at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital, Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, and Hospital Pekan in partnership with the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

The undergraduate medical program is based at the Kuantan campus. During their clinical years, students train at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS), Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), and Hospital Pekan, which are all in Pahang. HTAA serves as the primary teaching hospital during clinical years.[3]

Curriculum

The school's curriculum integrates Islamic beliefs into medical training, including the concept of Tawhid. This integration is in line with IIUM's philosophy of the Islamization of Human Knowledge, which emphasizes integrating Islamic ideals into contemporary disciplines.[4]

The Kulliyyah of Medicine offers postgraduate programs, including a master's degree and a PhD in medical sciences, along with several clinical postgraduate programs that are administered by other boards.[5]
