Kundalam Vidwan Rangachari in his later years (circa 1976)

Kundalam Vidwan Rangachariar (1893–1976) was a Sanskrit scholar. He lived in Srirangam and was involved in the Vedaparayanam and the daily puja at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. He was known for his knowledge of Vedanta and was a regular speaker on the subject. He was actively associated with the growth of Sri Annaswamy Iyengar Vidwat Sadhas, Mannargudi.[1] He was a regular invitee and speaker in the summer school lectures at Tirupati (TTD). Kundalam Rangachariar was well known to Kanchi Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal (Mahaswamigal). Besides being a Sanskrit scholar, he was an astrologer.

He was married to Rukmini. They lived at 142, North Chitra Street, Srirangam. They had the following children: Srinivasaragavan, Srirangachari, Ranganayaki, Thirumalai, Satagopan, Sundararajan and Sampathkumaran.

Trivia[edit]

He was a great philanthropist. Once, I remember, he donated a silk cloth with golden linings to a poor man shivering in cold on the roadside on one of his birthdays. The cloth happened to be his unique and the costliest present in the family
