Kurek Ashley (born April 8, 1961) is an American conference speaker, self help author and life coach. His first book, How Would Love Respond (2008).[1] was published in 2008 by BenBella Books.

Early Career[edit]

Kurek Ashley was born on April 8 1961, in Chicago, Illinois and started his acting career at The Second City, aged 12. When he turned 18 Ashley moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in cinema. Starting out as a stuntman and key and dolly grip for numerous films, Ashley earned minor roles as an actor and extra in multiple action movies such as Lock Up (1989), Airheads (1994) and Terminal Velocity (1994).

Helicopter Crash[edit]

In 1990 while filming Delta Force 2 in the Philippines a helicopter accident resulted in the death of four people with more severely injured[2]. One of those involved was Ashley’s best friend Mike Graham[1]. Ashley had originally been scheduled to be on the helicopter but had not been onboard when the aircraft took off[3]. Following the incident Ashley fell into a spiral of alcoholism and drug addiction before attempting suicide. Ashley sites these experiences as the inspiration behind his life coaching work.

Career[edit]

Kurek left the film industry in 1998 to become a life coach and motivational speaker. He worked for Anthony Robbins for several years[4]. Eventually he moved into giving motivational performances of his own[5]. He also implements less conventional techniques such as fire walking and board breaking[6]. Australian Olympic Gold Medalist Natalie Cook credits Ashley[7] with motivating her and teammate Kerri Pottharst towards their victory in the Volleyball final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 2008 Kurek Ashley published his debut self help book, How Would Love Respond with independent publisher, BenBella Books.

Personal life[edit]

Ashley married Erin Ashley (nee Porter) in January 2015. They base themselves on the Sunshine Coast, Australia with their three children.
