Kurmi caste
Kurmi caste is found in the region of Awadh, eastern UP and Bihar and they are a well-educated caste and also one of the largest landholders after Brahmins and Rajputs.
Kurmi are known for their hard work; there is a saying in the region of Awadh: "baki sabhi jaat ke bacche gussate hai to idhar udhar bhagte hai aur kurmi ke bache khet me jate hai kisani karte hai".
According to RD Singh, dermatoglyphic variations exist among four castes.
