Kuvempu University is a public state university located in Shankaraghatta, in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka, India. It was established in 1987 by an Act of the Karnataka State Legislature. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The university is named after the Kannada poet and Jnanpith awardee Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa, popularly known as Kuvempu.
History
Kuvempu University was established in 1987 with the objective of promoting higher education in the Malnad region of Karnataka. The university was created to cater to the educational needs of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts.
Campus
The main campus, known as Jnana Sahyadri, is situated in a rural setting at Shankaraghatta. The campus includes academic buildings, administrative offices, library facilities, hostels, and research centers.
Academics
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programmes in disciplines including arts, science, commerce, management, and education. It follows the semester system and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
