Kyle Stelter is a former American football long snapper who most recently played for the New York Jets of the National Football League.

Early life

Kyle Stelter was born on July 15 in Osceola, Wisconsin. He attended Osceola High School, where he played football, starting at long snapper and on the offensive line. However, due to his small size, Stelter received little attention from college scouts. The University of Wisconsin-River Falls showed interest in him as a long snapper, but Stelter declined their offer. Instead, Stelter created a long snapping highlight video, which eventually earned him a spot at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

College career

Stelter originally attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he was a reserve long snapper, never playing in a game. After his freshman year, Stelter transferred to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he remained a reserve long snapper. In his junior season at River Falls, he played in his first game, an exhibition match against St. John's University. In his senior season, Stelter played in every game as a long snapper.

Professional career

Stelter was not scouted by professional teams. Instead, he earned a tryout with the St. Paul Pioneers, a semi-pro football team, who had recently won the national championship. After playing three years with the Pioneers, Stelter earned a roster spot with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League (2009-12). Four games into the regular season, the UFL folded, and Stelter entered free agency. On May 2, 2014, Stelter received an invitation to a try out with the New York Jets. He was invited back for the rookie minicamp, but was not signed to the offseason roster.

Post playing career

Stelter currently works as a physical education teacher in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He also is an assistant football coach at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he coaches special teams. Furthermore, he operates a kicking, punting, and long snapping website, Special-Teams-University.com, which offers special teams camps throughout the United States.
